Wednesday

today i took the train to work. thistles and wild roses are growing in between the east and west bound tracks. they looked bright and brave against the grey. i remembered wading in a wide river with julie years ago in the trinity valley. i thought, "i miss living by the wild of a river." and then thought, " oh, I never lived by a river." but i could feel the cool rushing by shin deep. i could feel the fish pushing into the current, the birds, all the river's visitors. and the sun as it drifts into afternoon and makes lazy arcs in the dust of every day. i could feel the river. and i could feel the wild.
